Writing in the

Third Grade

 

Writing has changed in the primary grades over the past several years!  The expectation is now for your child to write and respond to the Essential Question after each lesson.  We will use subject area journals each day.  It is also the expectation for your child to be able to write several sentences on topic with a good beginning catch phrase, good transitions and a closing. 

 

What we do in class:

In class, we write daily.  It is part of the Daily Five Centers, and we also write about Science, Social Studies and Math as mentioned above. 

 

What can you do at home: 

You can help your child by having them write in a daily journal and ask them to read it back to you.  Perfect spelling is not expected but it is a good opportunity for you to go over the correct spelling for words they may have missed.
